NEXT GEN - MAIZY'S WORLD

Maija — or Maiz — is the young creative behind Maizy’s World and a descendant of the Speedy mob of Kooma Nation.

Inspired by her mum Rhi’s creativity, Maiz decided to have a go at creating and selling pieces of her own. Drawing inspiration from the colours and patterns she sees in nature, creating gives Maiz a chance to slow down, feel balanced and express herself — and she loves seeing people enjoying something she has made.

Through Maizy’s World, Maiz creates handmade glass and clay beaded jewellery, phone charms, sunglass chains, Croc charms and hair accessories, alongside a selection of preloved tween clothing.

Maiz has become part of the GATHAA community, where she enjoys connecting with mob and showing younger jarjums that they can have a go at turning their own ideas and creativity into something of their own.

At the GATHAA Next Gen Market & Youth Showcase, Maiz is stepping forward as both a young stallholder and facilitator. Alongside her mum Rhi, she’ll lead the Bead Your Story workshop, sharing her creativity and helping others make something of their own.

Through Maizy’s World and GATHAA Next Gen, Maiz is continuing to build her confidence and skills as a young First Nations creative and entrepreneur, while encouraging other young people to give their ideas a go.
