Zomered Style

Jessie Mordey, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman from Tamwoy Town, Waiben (Thursday Island), is the creative force behind Zomered Style.

With ancestral ties to the Dauareb and Komet Clans of Mer (Murray Island) and the Wakaid Clan of Badhu (Badu Island), Jessie's art is a vibrant celebration of her heritage, translating ancestral stories and symbols into contemporary artworks that connect people to Indigenous culture.

Her unique style blends traditional elements with modern design, creating visually stunning and meaningful art that is both culturally authentic and personally expressive. A recurring theme in her work is "Mipla Totem"—the totemic animals shared across her family lines. These beings are depicted gazing back at the viewer with curiosity, existing like mythical spirits suspended between sea and sky.

The name "Zomered" holds deep personal and cultural significance for Jessie. It is the name of a village on Mer (Murray Island) belonging to the Passi family and connects her to her roots, identity, and lineage. Given to her by her late grandfather, Sam Passi, the respected head of the Passi Clan, the name affirms her place within her family and community.
