Amelia Hughes is a proud 17-year-old First Nations young woman with ancestral ties to the Gundungara, Yuin and Dharawal peoples.
Amelia has been part of the GATHAA family since the very beginning, growing alongside the markets and becoming a familiar face to our families and jarjums.
As GATHAA’s Jarjums Coordinator, Amelia helps create a welcoming creative space for children and families at our markets. She patiently guides activities, encourages jarjums and adults to get involved and gives everyone the confidence to have a go and create together.
Through Amelia’s Life, she is now taking another step in her own creative journey, creating and selling her art while gaining firsthand experience running her own small market business.
Beyond GATHAA, Amelia is a passionate student, musician and young community contributor. She plays violin and viola, sings in school choirs and performs with orchestras and ensembles. She is also involved with the Sunshine Coast Council Young Leaders Academy and the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament Youth Advisory Council.
At the GATHAA Next Gen Market & Youth Showcase, Amelia stepped forward as both a young stallholder and creative facilitator, sharing the patience and creativity that GATHAA families have come to know her for.
We’ve watched Amelia participate, help, facilitate and grow with GATHAA over the years. Seeing her now develop her own creative practice and step into leadership is a pretty special part of the GATHAA Next Gen journey.
